At the initiative of the residents of the surrounding neighbourhoods, united in the NLB (Nieuw Leids Bolwerk), a process of intensive cooperation has been started aimed at the redevelopment of the surroundings of the current power plant in the centre of the city of Leiden. Two developers have also been requested by NLB to expand the project with a housing assignment. After closing the power plant, the parties see possiblities to realise a park with a wide variety of park functions, preservation of the adjacent workshops, brewery and stonemasonry and an addition of approx. 400 homes strongly connected to the park. After completion, the Energy Park as a whole will be part of the Leidse Singelpark, the green defensive structure around the historic centre of the city.
