BICYCLE BRIDGE – SCHIEDAM, THE NETHERLANDS

Dutch people are avid cyclists. The municipality of Schiedam is a strong proponent of alternative traffic. With every project in the public space, Schiedam strives to favour the pedestrians and bicyclists with comfortable routes. The network of bicycle roads continues from the heart of the city. Unfortunately one of the roads is viciously interrupted by both the canal, and the railway from Rotterdam to Amsterdam. Stijlgroep designed a bicycle bridge that could curl underneath the railway, over the water and land on the other side to continue to the beautiful polder landscape of Midden Delfland.
